ABILENE, Texas – The Concordia Texas women’s tennis team opened American Southwest Conference play without losing a single match, completing a 9-0 sweep of Sul Ross State on Thursday.
The Tornados opened the day with a perfect 3-0 sweep in doubles play, starting with a convincing 8-2 victory at line one by the duo of Isabella Wiik and Natalia Goodman.
Next, Claire Austin and Kaitlin Stevens teamed up for an 8-0 shutout victory at line two, and Emily Hines and Rachel Sweitzer capped off doubles play with a shutout victory of their own at line three.
Already leading the day 3-0, the Tornados continued to dominate, completing the sweep with a 6-0 advantage in singles play.
Wiik was the first Tornado up, taking a straight-sets victory 6-3, 6-3 at line one, followed by Austin with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout win at line two.
Goodman continued the trend, shutting out her opponent to gain a 6-0, 6-0 victory in straight sets at line three, and Stevens followed suit with another shutout win at line four.
The Tornados took the final two matches of the day in shutout fashion, with Alejanra Rueda and Hines each winning 6-0, 6-0 at lines five and six, respectively.
The Tornados will continue ASC play on Friday, facing off against Hardin-Simmons in Abilene, Texas at 11 a.m.
