National Aviary to benefit from virtual country music concert ‘All Together For Animals’

A national music event on Wednesday evening will benefit the National Aviary on Pittsburgh’s North Side.

“All Together For Animals,” a virtual concert, will help members of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, a non-profit that collaborates with zoos and aquariums in conservation, education, science and recreation. The Aviary is one of more than 240 facilites represented by AZA.

Singer-songwriter Brad Paisley, who grew up near Wheeling, W.Va., will perform, along with Old Dominion, Ashley McBryde, Wynonna Judd, Riley Green, Jessie James Decker and Shy Carter.

The event is at 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased here. Half of ticket sales will go to the Aviary.

The pandemic has hurt the finances of the Aviary and other zoos and aquariums, said Carly Morgan, director of marketing and communications. She said previous closures and current capacity limitations caused a loss of revenue.

“We’ve taken on these losses, without compromising on the care of our precious animals,” Morgan said. “A fundraiser like this will help support the exceptional care we provide for every animal.”

She said the concert is also an opportunity to grow the Aviary’s audience.

“The hope is that we’ll reach country music fans as they enjoy this virtual concert from the comfort of home, and along the way, they will get to know more about the work we do every day in conservation, education, and animal care,” Morgan said.

Even when the Aviary wasn’t open, it still needed to feed and care for the 500 birds representing more than 150 species that live there, many of them threatened or endangered in the wild, Morgan said.

The Aviary is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day except Tuesday. Visitors are asked to reserve tickets ahead of time.
