For the first time since March, most Riverside County libraries will be reopening next week.

The Riverside County Library System announced the limited reopenings on Friday, Oct. 2. The reopened branches will offer “modified” services in compliance with coronavirus health regulations and will be enforcing physical distancing.

“We are really excited to have patrons come back into the libraries,” County Librarian Barbara Howison is quoted as saying in a news release. “Our staff misses having those day-to-day interactions with the community, and I know our community members miss the libraries, too.”

Branches reopening on Monday, Oct. 5, include:

  • Cabazon
  • Calimesa
  • Cathedral City
  • Coachella
  • Desert Hot Springs
  • Highgrove
  • Home Gardens
  • Idyllwild
  • Indio
  • La Quinta
  • Lake Elsinore
  • Lake Tamarisk
  • Mead Valley

  • Palm Desert
  • Perris
  • Louis Robidoux
  • San Jacinto
  • Sun City
  • Temecula Public Library
  • Thousand Palms – Art Samson
  • Valle Vista
  • Veterans Resource Center
  • Wildomar

Patrons will only have limited access to the library branches and will only be allowed inside for one hour at a time. Each branch will also have a limit on how many guests can be inside at a time.

Library services will be limited to borrowing and returning materials and using public computers. Digital and curbside services remain available.

Safety measures will include mandatory masks, hand sanitizer stations, partitions at counters and social distancing markers on the floor. The number of public computers at each library has been reduced to allow for social distancing. Lounge furniture has been removed.
