VIRGINIA BEACH — Beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin and friend, Monae Tyesha Mitchell, 32, transitioned to her heavenly home Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020. Monae graced the world with her beautiful presence Sept. 19, 1987, in Brooklyn, New York. One of her favorite sayings was, “Born in BK raised in VA.” She moved to Virginia at an early age.
Anyone who knew Monae, knows she was an overachiever and excelled in everything she did. She graduated from Landstown High School, Virginia Beach, at the age of 16; two years ahead of schedule. This was mainly due to her accelerated learning from private Christian schools.
Monae attended and graduated from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, with a degree in fashion merchandising. With a true eye for fashion and beauty, Monae extended her knowledge in the beauty industry by becoming a Virginia licensed cosmetologist and certified makeup artist which birthed her business, ComeSitPretty LLC. Some people never tap into their gifts, but Monae utilized all her gifts to give back to others. She transformed the lives of so many by sharing her ability to style, create beautiful creative hair styles and perform top quality make-up.
Gone in the physical, but never in the spirit, Monae is survived by her parents, grandmother, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.
To know Monae was to love her. Monae was a fighter, assertive and loyal. She knew how to handle business. If you ever needed a voice, backup or a solid on your team, Monae was the person to call. She was dependable. In the words of Monae, “One thing about me; I’m going to be late, but I’m coming.”
Monae was a socialite who loved to travel and hang with her friends. She was the life of the party and a lover of fashion. Most of all, she enjoyed being with family. Family was her rock. The bond she shared with her mother was unbreakable. When you think of Monae, remember her beautiful smile, her will to never give up and her ability to live life to the fullest.
A private celebration of life will be held for Monae. For those who wish to send flowers and leave messages, please contact Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home. If you opt to send flowers, please ensure they will arrive by Thursday, Sept. 10.
